Bristol Diamond

Bristol Diamonds are well-formed, clear, usually colourless quartz crystals formerly found in some abundance on both sides of the Avon Gorge, either lining fissures in the limestone rock, or in the interior of hollow nodules – geodes or potato-stones. These crystals have been known since the late sixteenth century and were thought for many years to be a somewhat inferior form of true diamond, and it appears that they were not fully recognised as quartz till something like a hundred and fifty years later.
